Nothing that a jug of water in your snitch neighbor’s gas tank can’t fix.
it might look better if you remove the chopped grass but, yea, it sucks ass. i will never understand the obsession with cut grass. it would make more sense if people did stuff on their lawns and tall grass was actively a hindrance, but they just kinda look at it?? weird af
Most of these people could replace their lawn with green concrete and barely know the difference
Yeah you’re not wrong. In that way it’s probably not a fair comparison, but I’m also unmotivated to do so.
The neighbors launch boats from there, but they also have a full-on in-ground pool on the plateau above this one lol. Nobody swims in this lake, so I have no idea what the beach is for other than not having to do maintenance on the landscaping (valid).
Insane thing to complain to a landlord about tbh, I don’t think it would have even dawned on me to be mad about a tiny strip of uncut grass.
Muh property values!
Yeah I’ve never had a conversation with these people in the over a year we’ve lived here. Except the one time I passive-aggressively ragged on their teenage grandchildren for leaving a huge doggie dookie square in the middle of our front yard.
I made a grass racing stripe/swoop like that on the front of the place that I live. I made it to give all the dog walkers an obvious place to let their dogs urinate. And it makes my yard go faster.
Your yard needs some speed holes too
I’m sending a crate of armadillos
'Dillos will freeze to death out here.
Send angry badgers, instead.
I planted buffalo grass in my front yard so I wouldn’t have to mow anymore. The city has rules for the length of grass and weeds, but not flowering plants. Buffalo grass is great because you don’t have to water it and it flowers most of spring and summer!
American lawn culture is inherently fascist. I will not elaborate
no elaboration necessary
Throw in a HOA and it’s authoritarian too. Nothing like being told you need to have a specific grass type that requires more water than a fucking cow and you need mow it to a specific height and no you can’t just replace the lawn with green rocks or thing that doesn’t waste resources for no reason beyond the current HOA presidents idea of aesthetic value.
I let my backyard go wild. I originally planned to plant some stuff in the grassy areas and make some paver paths, but I got lazy. Now my raspberry bushes have doubled their area, but I can’t get to them because I have a thorny flowering bush all over the place. At least the birds and insects are enjoying it.
Found ops neighbor.
Yeah, except from the reboot. (in age, haven’t seen it yet)
Your neighbour is an interfering twat.
The little critters would have loved having a protected green corridor to move from the lake to the treeline. Now they gotta run exposed across open lawn :(
Yeah especially considering the house on the other side of this lawn has a bald eagle nest in the back yard, so the little critters really need all the help they can get!
Before: fresh, sweet air and a haven for little critters
After: depression
neighbor sounds old and wretched. border grasses strips are cool and visually appealing.
lawn brain is one of my most loathed brain diseases in the U.S. its adherents are some of the most recalcitrant and ignorant assholes ever manufactured by an industry.
Agreed. Their lawn is also shit, and I think maybe 20% of this neighborhood has ever picked up a single lawn tool themselves.
These are also the folks that leave the long-dead perrenials growing by their porch in place, so that when spring comes their front step is just covered in gross fuzzy white dead old vines, which then naturally end up blowing into our yard throughout the spring and into summer. So ya know, just real fixated on important lawn business all the time.
apparently they dont even have a lawn? they have the beach and theyre forcing their lawn brain on OP!
Well, you can always cover it in canadian thistle, knotgrass and hogweed.
Left behind quite a gift for my last landlord with that one when he kept weedwhacking my garden strip. He can have fun doing it multiple times a week now!
Yo wtf that frame of natural growth as a border looks sooooooooooo much better than the shit afterwards. I genuinely like how it was before.
I so agree. I was actually really proud of how I’d managed to balance the close-cut lawn I’m required to keep with at least a little bit of growth, and did it in a way that looked really nice and intentional, not like I’d just been missing a spot all year.
I thought it was a great compromise and I loved it. Sadly, the crackers next door disagreed, and I guess that’s what matters to the owner (who has insisted they will never sell this house, so it’s not a property value thing).
Maybe some grass plants can be used for the same vertical effect without pissing off the neighbour? Put in some Luzula or Carex and he couldn’t possibly pretend they’re supposed to be cut. This is “mow your lawn” mindset taken to its extreme, it can’t be applied to actual plants. If you remove a portion of the grass and make it a “bed” then put in Luzula and Perennials it could have the same effect and nobody would say “cut your planting bed”. With that said, it would be 100-200 worth of planting needed.
i guess your neighbor likes having sand from that little beach getting pushed and blown into his precious grass?
They are the ones with the beach. Ya know, big sandy beach, just like you always naturally find on the north woods lakefront. Wouldn’t want to ruin all that with some ugly local flora, that’s for sure.
