I know this is a shitpost but I’ll never pass an opportunity to shit on subway.
It’s the shit quality ingredients and how they keep changing everything.
I use to eat subway all the time. Then they changed the only fuckin sauce I ever got, then removed it completely. I was fine with other sauces but then they started fucking with them too. This along with the ever increasing drop in overall quality of ingredients I can’t even eat half a 6" without feeling sick.
Signed - Someone who used to fucking love subway ranting about how it’s been completely ruined.
It’s so expensive now too and the veggies taste like water. 6.99 for a 6inch cold cut in Canada
Where are you from? I was in Subway after a long break (a few years) and the only thing that changed was that they added vegan options, everything was as fresh and tasty as I remembered it. And expensive. Eastern EU here.
Eastern EU
Yeah that would be why. I live in the states.
It’s crazy to me how wildly varying Subways can be, all the Subways in my area are fairly decent and I like them.
I particularly like Subway because of the choice of veggies, I literally say “all veggies” at the veggies part and I know damn well I’m not even going to keep a fraction of the veggies at home. I can’t even keep lettuce good for very long before it goes nasty.
Its the franchising. Mcdonalds for all its faults keep a tight reign on things so it remains consistant. BK and subway you can see they do not or have very lax rules. There was one near my house awhile back where if the owners were working it you did not want to go in. Old wilted lettuce and such. Once in awhile they were gone and their kids were alone in the shop. I think the kids threw out anything they found gross. Working off the idea of what they would want for themselves. Then it was one of the best in the area. Unfortunately the kids being unsupervised was a rarity and so it could not actually get more traction from those good experiences as they were to few and far between. I actually have this problem now with a non chain gyro shop near me. The one we went to closed down but the new one I found gets to low of traffic and again. wilted lettuce and whatnot. Without more traffic you won’t get fresh stuff. If they were smart they would wait to cut the tomatoe and lettuce until someone ordered which would make a better experience and maybe more traffic and eventually they could do the ahead of time prep. As it stands now it will go out of business or be on kitchen nightmares.
I miss the OG UK kitchen nightmares, the American ones are pretty unwatchable for me personally but these UK ones were great comfort TV.
My town has 3 subways and they’re all terrible anymore.
I remember when the first one opened around me in high school and it was great and my friends and I hit it up pretty regularly. That was back when burger king was good to. Both went down over the years.
I wish I didn’t have to tell the expert artisanal sandwich craftsman how to make the sandwich step by step. “I’d like a number 5”
-What bread? “Whatever’s in the picture for number 5”
-Toasted? “Whatever’s in the picture for number 5”
-What meat? “Whatever’s in the picture for number 5”
-What veggies? “Whatever’s in the picture for number 5”
-What cheese? “Whatever’s in the picture for number 5”
-What sauce? “Whatever’s in the picture for number 5”
Why bother selling meals if each component requires a conversation. The fucking meal option should skip that bulshit unless initially ordered as such. ‘I’d like a number 5 with everything different than advertised’
I don’t recall ordering a piece of plastic in my sandwich on my last trip there years ago. Got it anyway. The blank stare I got when I told the worker said “I have no idea why you care that your sandwich contains plastic” lol
You fool, that was the Plastic Ticket. Due to inflation, some franchises may not have the Golden ones. You could’ve redeemed that for a free tour of Jared Fogle’s house
Personally I’m the kind of guy that would probably just remove it and keep eating, however it should be noted that piece of plastic was likely wrapping one of the ingredients, that means one side would be clean and food safe but the other would be the side that laid on random stuff/surfaces, got pissed on by rats in the warehouse, etc etc. Again I wouldn’t be too fussed myself because I think a bit of exposure to nasty stuff is part of life but I can definitely see how it could be a problem.
I find Subway absolutely gross anyway and would never eat there, my partner likes it though…
Subway worker: That’s… That’s the bread.
They don’t have an option for bread that doesn’t ruin everything
You don’t like bread that immediately squishes into warm paper towel cover in oregano?
If all you have to choose from is shit, you’ll always end up with a shit sandwich.
Don’t buy it then😂
I definitely won’t.
Happy days
Subway is the only gluten free option fast food in UK. It’s the only place I can reliably eat at and I’ve yet to have a bad experience, staff goes above and beyond to not cross contaminate their food.
I’ve got some coeliac family and they seem to have reasonable luck with some chippies! That will certainly vary by location and maybe you don’t have a good one near you (or just don’t like it as much), but chippies that do a good job of catering for gluten-free diets certainly exist
We have few around. But if you’re out and about exploring… Find me gluten free app doesn’t always list reasonable places. Subway is more common than any other fast food so it is bound to have one within walking distance.
That’s why I don’t go to subway.
My brother in christ I’m paying you to make the sandwich.
If I wanna make one myself I go to the grocery store. Wait they have premade ones too for cheaper. Oh and there’s a bakery at the grocery store that sells sandwiches too, and they even taste better than subway! That’s like a 3-0 for the grocery store
Also who the fuck came up with a ‘0.3048m long’ as sandwich name??
i aint no sandwich artist
I’m merely a patron of the sandwich artist.
i kinda feel bad for the artists. the quality of the materials they have to work with have declined precipitously since the 90s.
they truly suffer for their art
Artists thrive when they are constrained though. It builds character.
A footlong sub (not a meal) is around 13€ here.
I can get a full ass restaurant meal for that
When it costs that much, the choice makes sense.
But where I live, for whatever reason, Subway is less than half the price of full meals from nearby restaurants. That is in part because restaurants have gone up in price.
A footlong sub can be a meal, if you put enough stuff on it. And the veggies don’t make it cost more. Just load it up with everything and get your money’s worth.
Can someone explain this, this post doesn’t make sense to me
At Subway the customer picks the stuff that goes into the sandwich.
It’s basically build your own food, except it’s someone else’s fingers in your food.
Buy what if you get to make your own sandwich? run the oven and all
Then congratulations you now work at subway
I’m not sure congratulations are in order. Condolences, maybe.
When I visited the us that was a major culture shock. How much of an almost irrelevant choice there is on food and many other things. In Germany if I go to a bar and order a beer there is no question. You just get the standard beer of the region and or bar. There are like 4-5 beers on tab at most.
On another note, an American friend that lives in Germany now told me that the German subs taste wayyyy better as in incomparably better
Could be but there aren’t that many subways left. At some point you could find them everywhere then there was a problem? with the franchise and many rebranded to MrSub or something and soon after closed. At least in my area.
All of the possible combinations taste kinda same tbh
If your chicken tastes like tuna, I don’t know what to tell you
Worse ingredients, worse sandwiches. Subway.
The meme is correct.
Subway, not unlike Lil Caesars, is soooo good when you ain’t got some bitch in your ear telling you it’s trash.
I also actually do like Subway.
It’s it the best thing ever? No. But when I have the choice between McDonald’s, some bread bun with maybe a single slice of salad and subway, the choice is very clear. All their options come with good amounts of veggies, they had decent vegetarian options quite early, their cookies rock and they were one of the few offering free refills.
I dunno what the snobbism is always about. I love it when I need to wait for a train and Subway is an option.
you’re lucky; the ones near me aren’t great. the ingredients are often meh or gross. the staff rarely wears hair control, they’re not helpful, and obviously undercompensated for the bullshit they have to endure. pass.
I have negative feelings about subway because when Quiznos first started, their sandwiches were amazing but subway responded with the $5 footlong deal, after which Quiznos quality went down when they cut costs to compete.
And today Quiznos sucks if they even have a place open in the area and subway is still the same but certainly not offering footlongs for $5 anymore (and I question whether they were selling them at a loss even back in the 00s when they did it).
Plus subway had Jared, who was annoying even before his extra curricular activities came out.
At least Firehouse Subs are filling the niche Quiznos briefly filled now, which isn’t even subway’s niche, even if they both make submarine sandwiches.
Well, this was my perspective from Germany. We don’t have and never had a real competing chain. We have McDonald’s, Burger King, KFC as big fast food chains. So this is what they compete against here
Ah that sucks, those are mostly ones I don’t even consider anymore. KFC can be ok but their ingredient quality (for anything other than chicken) is all over the place to the point where I’ve stopped taking the gamble and just make chicken burgers and bowls at home if that’s what I’m craving. I’ll do the other three if there aren’t any other options but I’ll go a bit out of my way for other options.
But if they were my only options, I’d probably eat out less and would prefer subway or BK.
How’s the non-chain scene in Germany?
How’s the non-chain scene in Germany?
Generally pretty good, at least for Kebab, burgers, fries, sausage and grilled chicken. Sandwiches are a total niche though. Basically only smaller ones premade at bakeries and shops (premade still referring to made in store, but not upon request).
I mean… you don’t have any choice about the quality of the meat. Didn’t Subway get in trouble because they couldn’t prove their tuna salad actually contained any, uh… tuna?
Not really. There was a lawsuit that claimed they contain no tuna. A lab found no tuna DNA, a different lab did. The lawsuit shifted to “does not contain only this type if tuna”.
Also highly processed food (especially after it was cooked) does not contain any DNA that is identifiable.
