BELOIT, Ill. (WREX) — A woman left an urn at a movie theater back in September. Now she is saying she did so intentionally.
She said her choice to place the ashes in the theater was not an accident as she did it to get rid of the remaining piece of someone, she had no real relationship with.
The urn belonged to a Beloit woman who wished to remain anonymous.
She said the ashes were her father’s whom she did not have a relationship with due to difficult family circumstances.
“I didn’t want him or his presence inside of my house and I was going to watch a movie that day and I decided to take it with me,” the woman said.
The urn owner said prior to heading out the door, she marked the item with his name and other comments so that there would be a slight idea of who he was.
“Not identifiers though as far as last name, middle name or any of the tags that go into cremains,” she said.
She then packed the urn and headed out the door, walking into the theater with it.
“The urn was in my bag. I have a satchel like a crossbody bag that I brought him in,” the woman said.
And the movie she took it into, Beetlejuice Two.
“It’s just how the cookie crumbled. It just happened that way. That’s the movie I was going to see,” she said.
Following the movie, and with no second thoughts, the woman said she left the urn in a specific location.
“I ended up putting him behind the theater seats and then underneath the theater seats,” she said.
She then walked away, thinking she would never really hear much of her decision.
“It was just one of those maybe he won’t be found for a while, and somebody will throw it away. Maybe the theater will post it on their Facebook page, which I looked for that and nothing happened,” the woman said.
And today, she said she remains happy with the choice.
“He’s not a loved one. He’s not missing. He is not of importance to me,” the woman said.
She also said she has no intentions to pick up the urn and plans to leave it at the City of Beloit’s Police Department.
So… then throw the urn in the trash. Why leave it in a theater for some underpaid kid to deal with?
It’s bizarre. If you don’t want to throw the urn in the trash, how about dumping it in a lake or something? It’s almost special even if you don’t care about them.
